Bangladesh Self-employed Union prepares for the New Manifesto Campaign

During 2011, the Self-employed Union of Bangladesh, a StreetNet affiliate, conducted two leadership training courses in Khulna and in Dhaka.  The two day courses reviewed challenges of organising the informal economy and leadership skills, as well as the current policy of the government concerning street vendors.  The SEU is calling for a special national policy on street vendors to deal with the many problems  they face.  The participants also reviewed basic concepts concerning collective bargaining and how it might apply in the context of the informal economy.

Participants at Dhaka leadership course 18-19 October 2011

Participants at Khulna leadership course 25-26 August 2011

The first training course was conducted on 25-26th August 2011 in Khulna with 20 participants (4 women) and the second course was for women only and was conducted in Dhaka on October 18-19 for 20 women.

SEU participated in the New Manifesto campaign workshop in New Delhi earlier in the year and is preparing a consultation process with a view to implementing the campaign in 2012.
